1. Using Undo Button to Undo a Save in Excel

If you haven’t closed the sheet, you can undo a save in excel simply by using the undo button from the Home ribbon. From the dataset given below, I will change some cell values to Save it and Undo it.

Steps:

First, select cell C6 and change its value.
We replaced the value ‘Basketball’ and inserted ‘Swimming’.
Now, press CTRL+S to Save to changes.

Then, select the Home ribbon.
From there, click on the Undo button.

Finally, the save will be undone. The value of Cell C6 again will change into ‘Basketball’.

2. Use of Keyboard Shortcut Ctrl+Z to Undo a Save

Generally, the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Z is used to undo the previous action. If you haven’t closed the sheet, you can also undo a save by using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Z in Excel. This will undo the saved item and retrieve the previous value.

Steps:

First, select cell C6 and change its value.

3. Using Manage Workbook Feature to Retrieve Earlier Versions of Excel File

Workbook Manager Feature creates a database of all open Excel workbooks so you may easily navigate through them. You can insert, rename, delete, resort, and retrieve workbooks using this feature.

Steps:

First, change the Cell C6 value ‘Basketball’ as ‘Swimming’ and Save the data by using the shortcut CTRL+S.

Then, click on File to open the File section.

After that, from Info >> go to Manage Workbook >> then select autorecovery workbook.

Finally, the value of cell C6 changed to its previous value ‘Basketball’.

Steps:

First, in the dataset, we added the Age of the students in column D.

Then, we changed all the data from Cell D5 to Cell D11 and saved the values by using CTRL+S.

After that, click on File to open the file section.

Then, click on Info >> select Version History.

Next, the Version History list showed up.
From there, you can select the desired version to open in a separate window by clicking on the Open version.
Here, I selected the version of my choice.

Next, click on Restore to retrieve the previous version in Excel.

Finally, all the data from Cell D5 to Cell D11 is restored.
