In the following article, we will show you 2 easy methods to create 3D animation in Excel. Here, we used Excel 365. You can use any available Excel version.


1. Using Built-in 3D Models

Excel has several built-in 3D models. These models are available in the Illustrations group that is presented in the Insert tab. In this method, we will be showing you how you can insert 3D animation in Excel using 3D Models.

Steps:

  • First of all, we will go to the Insert tab.
  • Then, from the Illustrations group >> select 3D Models.
  • This will bring out 2 options.
  • Here, we will choose Stock 3D Models, which will bring out several built-in 3D animations.

However, if you have any 3D models saved on your computer, you can select the This Device option.

Using Stock 3D Models for 3D Animation in Excel

  • At this point, an Online 3D Models dialog box will appear.
  • You can see numerous 3D models in that dialog box >> scroll down to find out more models.

  • Here, you can search for several models according to your needs.
  • After that, we type Car in the search button because we want to insert a 3D animation of a Car.
  • Along with that press ENTER.

  • Now, we will select the car model >> click on Insert.

  • As a result, you can see inserted car animation in our worksheet.

2. Applying VBA to Insert 3D Animation in Excel

In this method, we will apply VBA to create 3D animation in Excel. Here, we will show to you a 3D animation of an oval shape. Let’s go through the following steps to do the task.


Step-1: Inserting Command Button

In this step, we will insert 2 command buttons, one for starting the 3D animation, and another to stop the 3D animation.

  • First of all, go to the Developer tab >> go to the Insert option.
  • Then, from the ActiveX Controls group >> select Command Button.

  • Then, we insert the Command Button.
  • Moreover, to edit the Command Button name, we will select the Command Button.
  • Then, we will go to the Developer tab >> select Properties.

  • At this moment, a Properties dialog box will appear.
  • Then, in the Caption box, we will edit the name of the Command Button to Start.

  • Therefore, you can see the Start Command Button.
  • Here, when we will click on the Start button, the animation will be started.
  • Afterward, to change the color of the Start button, select the icon of the BackColor box.
  • Furthermore, select Palette, this will bring out numerous amounts of color >> select a color.
  • Here, we choose Orange color.

  • Therefore, you can see the Start button now looks more eye soothing.
  • Now, it is time to create the Stop button so that we can stop the animation.
  • Here, we do not need to follow the same procedure to insert the Stop button, we can simply Copy the Start button, and then, we will modify the Start button to a Stop button.
  • Afterward, we will click on the Start button >> press CTRL+C to copy the button.

  • Therefore, you can see two Start buttons.
  • Next, we will name the second button to Stop button, and we will change its color.
  • To do so, we will select the Second button.
  • Then, we will go to the Developer tab >> select Properties.

  • Moreover, we will type Stop in the Caption box.

  • Hence, you can see Start and Stop command buttons.
  • Further, we will change the color of the command button.
  • To do so, we will click on the Stop button >> click the icon of the BackColor box.
  • Then, from the Palette group >> select a color.
  • Here, we selected Red color.

  • As a result, you can see two Command Buttons.


Step-2: Inserting Oval Shape

In this step, we will insert an Oval shape, and we will make the shape a 3D animated shape.

  • In the beginning, we will go to the Insert tab >> select Shapes.
  • This will bring our various number of Shapes.
  • After that, we will select Oval.

  • Furthermore, we will format the shape.
  • To do so, we will right-click on the shape.
  • Then, we will select Format Shape from the Context Menu.

  • At this moment, a Format Shape dialog box will appear.
  • Then, from the Effect group >> select 3-D Format.
  • After that, we set the Top bevel Width as 80 pt, and Height as 90 pt.
  • Along with that, we set the Bottom bevel Width as 85 pt, and Height as 90 pt.
  • Here, you can set the Height and Width according to your needs.

Use of Format Shape Option for 3D Animation in Excel

  • Hence, the oval looks like a 3D shape.

  • Moreover, we will remove the outline of the shape.
  • To do so, we will click on the shape >> go to the Shape Format tab.
  • Then, from Shape Styles >> go to Shape Outlines group >> select No Outline.

  • Moreover, we will change the color of the shape.
  • To do so, we will click on the shape >> go to the Shape Format tab.
  • Then, from Shape Styles >> go to Shape Fill group >> select a color.
  • Here, we select a Yellow color.

Step-3: Inserting VBA

In this step, we will insert VBA to create 3D animation with the above-created oval shape.

  • First, we will insert a code for the Start button, so that when we click on the Start button, the animation starts.
  • Therefore, we will double-click on the Start button.

  • This will bring out a Private Sub.
  • Then, we will type the following code in the Private sub.

  • Moreover, we will insert a code for the STOP button.
  • This is because when we click on the Stop button, we want the animation to Stop.
  • Therefore, we will double-click on the Stop button.

  • This will also bring out another private sub.
  • Then, we will type the following code in the private sub.

  • After that, Save the code >> and go back to your Worksheet.
  • Here, you have to turn off the Design Mode in order to work this code.
  • You can find the Design Mode in the Developer tab.

Then, we will click on the Start button.

  • Therefore, you will see the 3D animation.
