Protect Workbook Not Working in Excel!(2 Simple Steps to Solve)
- Open the file with .csv extension. You will see that the file will open without requiring any password. There will be a loss of some formats too.
Step-1: Save the File Using Save As Feature
- To make the Protect Workbook feature work, go to File >> Save As
- Choose the marked drop-down icon and select Excel Workbook (*.xlsx). Change the name of your file if you want.
- Click on Save.
- Now, change the format of your data from the workbook according to your convenience.

Step-2: Making Protect Workbook Work Using Excel Info Feature
- Go to File >> Info >> Protect Workbook >> Encrypt with Password
- A dialog box will show up. Put a password and then Reenter to confirm
- After that, click OK.
- Save the workbook before closing it or just press CTRL + S and then Close the workbook.
- Now, open the workbook that has the .xlsx extension. You will see it will require the password that you added to the workbook. Insert the password and click OK. In case you want to open my workbook, use the password 1234.
- After that, you will see the protected data of the workbook.
Thus you can solve the issue of workbook protection not working on an Excel file by inserting the proper File Extension.
How to Properly Protect Workbook with CSV Extension in Excel
You need to apply for protection first. To do this,
- First, go to File >> Info >> Protect Workbook >> Encrypt with Password
- A dialog box will show up. Put a password and then Reenter to confirm
- After that, click OK.
- Save the workbook before closing.
