1. Using Number Format to Convert Currency to Number
By using Number Format I will convert the Currency into Numbers. It is one of the easiest ways to do it.
- First, select the cell range to convert Currency to Number. Here, I selected the range C5:C11.
- Then, go to the Home tab >> from Number group >> select Number.
Therefore, the Currencies are converted into Numbers.

2. Use of Format Cells Option in Excel
Now, I will use the Format Cells option to convert the Currency into Numbers.
- To begin with, select the cell range to convert Currency to Number. Here, I selected the range C5:C11.
- Then, select any cell and right-click on it to bring the Context Menu Bar.
- From there select Format Cells.
A dialog box of Format Cells will appear.
- From there, select General.
- Finally, click OK.
As a result, you will get the numbers converted from currency.
3. Using the VALUE Function to Convert Currency to Number
If you want, you can use the VALUE Function to convert the Currency into Numbers.
- Firstly, select a cell to place the formula. Here, I selected cell C5.
- Then, type the following formula.
=VALUE(B5)
Here, the VALUE function will convert the currency into a number.
- Press ENTER to get Value.
- Now, use the Fill Handle to AutoFill the formula for the rest of the cells.
4. Employing Text to Columns Feature
The Text to Columns feature is a wonderful way of conversion. It will help you to convert the Currency into Numbers.
- Firstly, select the cell range to convert Currency to Number. Here, I selected the range C5:C11.
- Secondly, go to the Data tab >> select Text to Columns.
A Convert Text to Columns Wizard will appear.
- Firstly, select Delimited.
- Then, click Next.
- Secondly, from Delimiters, select Other and type $..
- Then, click Next.
- Thirdly, click on the Destination icon.
- Now, select the cell range C5:C11 as a Destination.
- Finally, click on Finish.
Therefore, you will get the Number from Currency.
5. Using Paste Special Feature to Convert Currency to Number
There is another way of converting Currency to Number by using the Paste Special feature in Excel. It will help you to convert the Currency into Numbers in a blink of an eye.
- Firstly, select the cell range to convert Currency to Number. Here, I selected the range C5:C11.
- Secondly, press CTRL+C to Copy the numbers with currency
- Now, select an empty cell, and right-click on it to bring up the Context Menu Bar.
- Then, select the Paste Values option.
As a result, all the values are converted into a number from currency.
6. Use of Power Query for Converting Currencies
If the Power Query is available you also can use it cause Power Query doesn’t support any type of currency, so it automatically turns the Currency into a Number.
- To begin with, select the cell range to convert Currency to Number. Here, I selected the range C5:C11.
- Secondly, go to the Data tab >> select From Table/Range
A dialog box of Create Table will appear.
- Check, My table has headers option.
- Then, click OK.
A Power Query Editor will appear.
- Now, you can see values are stored as Numbers.
- From Close & Load select Close & Load.
Therefore you will get Currency converted into a Number in an Excel sheet.
