How to Change Excel Column Width in Pixels (3 Easy Methods)

Method 1 – Change the Column Width with the Mouse

• We want to change the width of column C.
• Put the mouse cursor between column C and column D.

• The mouse pointer will change like in the picture given below.
• Left-click and hold.
• Excel will show the width in pixels.
• Drag the cursor to the right or left.

• After adjusting the column width, release the mouse button.

Method 2 – Utilize the Excel Autofit Option to Change the Column Width

• Take the cursor between column C and column D.
• The cursor sign will change like in the picture below.
• Double-click.

• The column width changed to fit its content.

Method 3 – Copy the Width from One Column to Another

• Select a column. In our case, the column is B.
• Copy the column by the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + C or by using the context menu.

• Right-click on the column whose width we want to change, such as column C.
• Choose the Paste Special option.

• The Paste Special box will appear.
• Select Column widths and click OK.

• Here’s the result.

How to Change Column Width to the Default in Excel

• Go to the Format option from the Home tab and select Default Width.

• The Standard Width box will appear with a default value of 8.43.

• Select the column whose width we want to change to default. We choose column D.
• Go to the Format option from the Home tab in the ribbon.
• Select Column Width.

• Insert 8.43 in the Column Width box.

• Press OK.

How to Set a Column Width Unit in Excel

• Go to the File option and choose Options.

• Excel Options box will appear. Select Advanced.
• Choose Default Units for Ruler Units.
• Press OK and the cell width unit changed to default if it was in other formats (inches, cm, or mm).

How to Use a Specific Number as Column Width in Excel

• Select the column which want to change.

• Go to the Format option in the Home tab.
• Select Column Width from the options.

• The Column Width box will appear. Input a number.

• Press OK and the column width will change accordingly.
